Rangers Seek C&O Canal Hiker Missing Since July 25

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- National Park Service rangers are seeking information about a hiker on the C&O Canal towpath who was last heard from on July 25.

Park rangers said Thursday that Ritchard Temple is believed to have been returning to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, from Cumberland, Maryland, when he last had contact with a family member. At that time, he was near Town Creek, about five miles east of Oldtown, Maryland.

Rangers say he might have camped at the Town Creek campsite in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park.

Temple is a white man in his early 50's, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, with blue eyes, glasses and graying blonde hair. He walks with a limp and uses a cane or walking stick.
