Raccoon Thrown From Car Tested Positive For Rabies
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Officials say a raccoon that was thrown out of a vehicle earlier this week tested positive for rabies.
It happened in the 1600 block of E. Preston Street when an eyewitness reported seeing a silver sedan toss a box out of the car.
City health officials warn that those who had contact with the raccoon should call Baltimore City Health Department as soon as possible.
Rabies is a deadly disease caused by a virus that attacks the nervous system, officlas say. It is usually spread to humans through the bite of an infected animal or getting saliva from an infected animal into an open wound or in the eyes, nose, or mouth. Rabies is not spread by petting a rabid animal or contact with blood, urine, or feces (stool).
