FBI Identify Deceased Suspect In NSA Shooting

FORT MEADE, Md. (WJZ) -- We're learning new details about the two suspects at the center of the NSA security scare. One person is dead and another injured after driving an SUV through a security barrier at Fort Meade.

Meghan McCorkell has the latest on the investigation.

We're hearing more about the two people inside that SUV when NSA guards opened fire on the car.

The incident began early Monday morning along North Charles Street, where police say Kevin Fleming and Ricky Hall were picked up by a 60-year-old man in a Ford Escape. Investigators say the three went to the Terrace Motel along Route 1 in Elkridge. Sources tell CBS News the two suspects were on an all-night bender with drugs and alcohol.

Police say the two stole the Ford Escape from the hotel and may have made a wrong turn onto the exit for the National Security Agency. The SUV smashed through a security barrier and rammed into an NSA police vehicle. That's when guards opened fire.

Twenty-year-old Fleming was injured and 27-year-old Hall---who went by the name of Maya---died on the scene.

"I only have known Maya for about two years now and she was a part of my family," said friend Ah'Tourai Stevens.

Walking near the abandoned rowhouse her friend called home, Stevens says she was supposed to meet Maya Monday afternoon. Instead she had to hear about her death.

Friends say Hall had recently gotten out of prison and was trying to get back on her feet.

"I say she's in a better place and I just pray for her soul because at the end of the day, we have to set examples for our community," Stevens said.

Meanwhile, FBI officials are still trying to piece together the events that led officers to fire at Hall and Fleming.

Law enforcement officials say they do not believe this was a deliberate attempt to breach NSA security.

The FBI and US Attorney's Office are working to determine if any federal charges will be filed in this case.
