Prominent Maryland Businessman & Philanthropist Dies At 95
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A Baltimore businessman and philanthropist has died.
WJZ's media partner, The Baltimore Sun, says the CEO and President of Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, Willard Hackerman, died at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
He started working at Whiting-Turner in 1938 and celebrated his 75th anniversary with the company last year.
Hackerman was a longtime donor to Johns Hopkins University. He also helped fund the Hackerman-Patz Patient and Family Pavilion at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, which supports the relatives of people suffering from cancer. Whiting-Turner also helped build the center, which opened in 2008.
Hackerman is survived by his wife, two children, five grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was 95.
