Prison Corrections Officer Arrested On Drug-related Offenses

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a Maryland prison corrections officer has been charged with multiple drug-related offenses.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that Washington County District Court records show 28-year-old Matthew Charles Stott, of Cumberland, was arrested Wednesday following a controlled purchase conducted by the county's narcotics task force and using a confidential informant.

Documents say Stott arranged to meet with the informant near Hagerstown that afternoon to obtain synthetic marijuana, heroin and $500 in exchange for marijuana.

The documents say Stott and the informant had reportedly met twice before for drug transactions.

Stott faces several charges, including attempting to possess controlled dangerous substances with the intent to distribute and conspiracy to distribute narcotics. Stott is being represented by an assistant public defender who had asked that his $100,000 bond be lowered.
