Prince George's To Begin New Bag Law

LARGO, Md. (AP) -- Plastic bags are no longer allowed to be used for yard waste collection in Prince George's County.

The new law takes effect on Wednesday.

Residents who bag their yard waste for pickup must use paper bags or reusable containers with sturdy handles.

The county's Department of Environmental Resources says plastic bags clog machinery, make a mess and contaminate compost. There also are additional costs with disposing of them.
