Prince George's Officer Killed In Crash Is Laid To Rest

LANHAM, Md. (WJZ)--A Prince George's County officer who died in the line of duty is laid to rest today.

As Mary Bubala reports, Officer Brennan Rabain is remembered as a dedicated public servant as the investigation into his death continues.

Every seat inside Victory Christian Ministries in Temple Hills was filled for the funeral of a fallen officer. 26-year-old Brennan Rabain died in a fatal crash in Lanham.

"I learned from his parents that he was brave that he was confident that he was committed and he was called to be a police officer," said Rushern Baker, Prince George's County Executive.

A preliminary investigation reveals Officer Rabain was attempting to make a traffic stop at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, when his cruiser left the roadway and struck a wooden fence. Police are still looking for the suspect driver who fled the scene.

"One of his last statements was I have to stop this guy before he kills somebody to the end he was serving his community with no concern of his own safety," said Police Chief Mark Magaw.

Police say Rabain's girlfriend was in the cruiser when it crashed and now the department is reviewing its policy allowing passengers in take-home vehicles while officers are off duty.

Officer Rabain was new to the force at his funeral his father said it was his son's dream to become a police officer.

"He would come into the house and say 'Dad watch this,' in his uniform. Just him and I and he would stand at attention and show me how to do it, and salute, laugh, 'How you like it dad? how you like it dad,' you are looking good boy."

Officer Rabain is survived by a 3-year-old daughter, his parents, and two siblings.
