Prince George's Fires Displace At Least 1 Family

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County fire fighters battled two separate house fires that left at least one family displaced.

Authorities say fire fighters were alerted to the first house fire in Capitol Heights at about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Authorities say smoke activated the alarm, and the fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of fire fighters arriving on the scene. The occupants, a woman and her two young children, were transported to a shelter.

Fire fighters were called to a second fire in Fort Washington fire at about 2:20 p.m. When they arrived they discovered a blaze spreading rapidly throughout a two-story building. Authorities say the damage is so severe the building's occupants will be displaced.

Nobody was injured during either blaze, and the cause of both fires is still under investigation.
