Pollinator Study Could Put More Bugs On Your Windshield
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — The State Highway Administration and the University of Maryland are launching a study that could put more bugs on your windshield this summer.
The agencies said in a statement Friday they're creating more habitat for bees and butterflies along four highways by managing the roadside vegetation. That means more milkweed and wildflowers, and possibly less mowing.
The project includes five areas in Frederick County along U.S. 15 and state Route 194. The other test plots are along Route 194 near Taneytown in Carroll County, and a stretch of Route 33 in Talbot County.
University of Maryland entomologist Dennis vanEngelsdorp says the project is part of a multifaceted approach to reversing the declining health of pollinators.
