Police: Woman Speeding Without Headlights On Crashes, Dies

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County detectives are investigating a fatal crash that left one woman dead.

Police say the crash occurred just after midnight on Saturday on Georgia Avenue near the Inter-County Connector in Rockville.

Police say officers were responding to a call for service when they saw a car speeding down the road without headlights on. Police say before the officers could stop the car, the vehicle left the road and struck a traffic pole. Police say a woman identified as 68-year-old Penelope Ann Garland was taken to the hospital where she later died.

The incident is still under investigation.
