Police: Woman Punched Officer During Sporting Event

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — Authorities say a woman punched a Cumberland police officer in the face after he responded to a disturbance call at an Allegany College of Maryland sporting event.

Nineteen-year-old Janai Bailey was charged with second-degree assault after police say she punched the officer Saturday while he was attempting to handcuff her for disorderly conduct.

Investigators say Bailey, 20-year-old Jasmine Ukaegbu and 20-year-old Tatyana Furr, had been asked to leave the event for causing a disturbance, but they refused. It's unclear what event was taking place.

Among other counts, Ukaegbu has been charged with resisting arrest, while Furr has been charged with disturbing the peace.

Jail records do not indicate whether the suspects have attorneys.
