Police: Woman Hit, Killed While Crossing Road In Clarksburg

CLARKSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County police say a woman has died after she was hit by a car while crossing a road in Clarksburg.

Rescue workers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck on Frederick Road on Wednesday night. The woman, 67-year-old Betty Lou Vest of Clarksburg, was taken to a local hospital where police say she was pronounced dead.

Police say Vest was hit by a northbound Volkswagen Golf as she tried to cross the road in an area with no marked crosswalk. The driver of the car remained on the scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
