Police: Off-Duty Prince George's County Police Officer Shoots Suspect After Allegedly Threatened With Knife At Liquor Store

HYATTSVILLE, MD. (WJZ) -- Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Prince George's County Sunday night.

It happened on New Hampshire Avenue near University Boulevard East.

Detectives said an off-duty officer was working part-time at a liquor store when he saw a man arguing with other customers.

Management had reportedly banned the man from the store in the past. The officer said the man walked toward him and pulled out a knife, so the officer pulled out a gun and fired.

There are no injuries to the officer, but the suspect is in serious condition after being shot.

Doctors have stabilized the suspect and said he should survive. There is no word yet on charges filed.
