Police Shoot And Kill Suspect In Suitland

SUITLAND, Md. (WJZ) -- An officer-involved shooting in Suitland leaves one man dead.

Two veteran officers responded to a dispute call around 2:15 a.m. Friday in the 3300-block of Curtis Drive near Overlook Elementary School. Once on scene the officers encountered two men outside an apartment building. At least one of the men appeared to have an assault rifle.

The man refused to lower the weapon and both officers fired. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The second man and the officers were not hurt.

After the shooting, two weapons were recovered at the scene. Both were pellet guns.

Police do not know what the connection is between the two suspects.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave as the incident is investigated.
