Police: Sex Offense Suspect Flees Into Metro Tunnel

WHEATON, Md. (AP) -- Metro Transit Police say a suspect in a sexual offense was pursued into the Wheaton Metro station, then disappeared into a tunnel.

Metro suspended service in the area for three hours Friday night while police searched for the man, but he was not found.

Metro spokesman Mike Tolbert says the offense was committed outside the station about 10 p.m. and the female victim was not injured.

Tolbert says the suspect fled into the station, then into the tunnel. He says power to the third rail was shut off during the search, but the man wasn't found. Service was restored around 1 a.m.
