Police Seize Two-Foot Alligator From Prince George's Co. Home

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY (WJZ)—A Suitland man was charged after police say they seized an illegally owned alligator in Prince George's County.

Authorities say they received a tip that 41-year-old Tyjuan Hopkins had a pet alligator inside his residence.

After obtaining a search warrant, police say they discovered the two-foot alligator in an aquarium in Hopkins' living room.

The alligator was taken to the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo in Frederick County.

Hopkins was charged with possessing a dangerous animal and also held for an outstanding arrest warrant on an unrelated matter, authorities said.

Hopkins is due in Prince George's District Court on Sept. 16. If found guilty, he could be fined as much as $1,000.

On June 19, an Edgewood man was also charged with keeping a dangerous animal after officers waded into a pond behind his home to seize a 3-foot alligator and take it to the Catoctin facility.
