Police Searching For Suspects Who Stole Rims, Tires Off Car In Ellicott City

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- Police are searching for two men suspected in the theft of tires and rims off a car in Ellicott City.

Howard County Police said the theft occurred on June 22. They believe the suspects could be involved in similar thefts in the area.

"They're doing it so quick some people don't even realize," Brian Goglio, of Howard County, said.

Surveillance video from a dashboard camera showed the two suspects in action. Two of them pulled up to a white Honda Accord, jacked up the car and quickly removed the tires and rims before stashing them away in their trunk and fleeing.

"It took them less than two minutes to get all the tires off and into their car," Seth Hoffman, of the Howard County Police Department, said.

Howard County Police said that the theft happened around 5:30 a.m. in the 3100 block of Wheaton Way in Ellicott City.

"I saw a white Honda on cinder blocks just sitting there for about a week," Chimene Scoby, a neighbor, told WJZ.

Some neighbors watched the video for the first time and were shocked at what they saw.

"It's definitely an uneasy feeling," Goglio said. "It doesn't make you feel safe."

Howard County Police said that these types of thefts happened at least 50 times this year.

A similar situation happened in Anne Arundel County where thieves were caught on camera earlier this year rolling tires down the road.

"They'll take the tires, either post them on an online app, or they have people they sell them to," Hoffman said.

Some neighbors are worried that their car is next.

"We're hoping they don't come back into this neighborhood to this side of town," Scoby said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them immediately.
