Police Searching For Suspect Who Gunned Down Man In Catonsville

CATONSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- Gunned down in a shopping center. Police are searching for the suspect who killed a 20-year-old man on Friday night.

Tracey Leong explains what led to this shooting.

Police say the victim and suspect got in an argument in a Pike Park Plaza shopping center---and that's when the gunman opened fire.

Twenty-year-old Brandon Wardell Ward was shot at least once in a Catonsville parking lot late Friday night.

"Sad, really is. It's the times we live in right now," said Tyrone Carroll.

Ward was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

This violent death is a surprise for people living nearby, who say the shopping center on the 65-hundred block of Baltimore National Pike is typically safe.

"Usually don't see a lot of people hanging around or anything, but a thing like this could happen anywhere," Carroll said.

"It's kinda rundown but I wouldn't say it's dangerous. I've never felt unsafe around here," said Tom Kong.

Police believe the 20-year-old was targeted.

"This is not a random crime. The public has nothing to worry about," said Baltimore County Police Corporal John Wachter.

Investigators are turning to the public now to help hunt down the suspect.

"The little bit of information could be that bit of information that helps us solve this case and bring the suspect to justice," Wachter said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP. If your tip leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a $2,000 reward.
