Police Probe Stabbings Near Frostburg State Campus

FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) -- Police continue to investigate the stabbings of two 19-year-old men at an apartment complex near Frostburg State University.

Frostburg City Police said in a written statement Sunday that they believe the violence early that morning stemmed from an altercation between Frostburg State students and those from Allegany College of Maryland, a community college in nearby Cumberland.

But Frostburg Police Chief Royce Douty (DOW'-tee) said Monday he's unaware of any tensions between those student groups.

Douty says many Allegany College students live in Frostburg. He says some students at both schools knew each other before coming to western Maryland, and they sometimes meet at parties where alcohol abuse leads to violence.

Frostburg State confirms that one of the victims is a student there. Police say both are expected to survive.
