Police Officer, Husband Indicted On Theft Charges

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a Prince George's County police officer and her husband, who is a former county police officer, have been indicted on theft charges in a payroll scheme that lasted more than two years.

State prosecutors announced Tuesday that Jennifer Simms and Harold J. Simms III were charged with two counts of theft and conspiracy. Prosecutors say Jennifer Simms falsified timesheets between 2012 and 2014, racking up more than $200,000 in pay.

Police say they learned of the allegations in December 2014.

Prosecutors say Harold Simms was charged as an accomplice because he knew about his wife's activity and benefited from the scheme.

Jennifer Simms has been suspended since May 2015. Harold Simms retired from the department in June 2015.

Online court records do not list attorneys for the two.
