Police: Juvenile Gave Birth In Home, Faked About Finding Baby On Porch

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (WJZ)—Police in Hagerstown now say a baby that was reportedly found wrapped in a plastic bag was actually a false claim by a mother.

Officers responded to the report after the caller stated that a baby was found on the back porch of a residence in the 800 block of Frederick St., in Hagerstown, Maryland.

However that story has changed.

"Officers determined that a juvenile gave birth to the baby inside the residence and had initially told police she had located the bay outside," said police.

When officers arrived to the scene the baby girl was found inside the residence wrapped on the couch in a blanket.

The baby girl was transported and is in stable condition.

Police say no charges will be filed, but they are in contact with the Department of Social Services for the safety and welfare of the child and juvenile involved.
