Police: Man Fell Asleep With Lit Cigarette In Harford Co. House Fire

HARFORD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)—A Harford County home went up in flames after police say a man fell asleep with a lit cigarette.

It happened on Wednesday around 4:00 p.m. in the 400 block of Bonnett Place.

Police say a man's bed covering ignited after falling asleep.

Investigators say the man attempted to extinguish the fire, but it spread too fast.

Both the man and another person inside the home were able to escape before an explosion occurred.

Police say the victim has a small container of black powder in the bedroom which ignited during the fire.

The home sustained extensive damaged due to the blast.

Red Cross is currently assisting both residents.
