Police: Man Dies After Being Injured In Fall At Station

ABERDEEN, Md. (AP) -- Aberdeen Police say they are investigating the death of a man who fell and hit his head while being escorted to a cell at the station.

The department said in a news release issued April 6 that 59-year-old Barry Lee Berkenkemper of Belcamp was arrested April 2 and charged with public intoxication.

Officers say while Berkenkemper was being escorted to a cell in the booking area of the station, he fell and hit his head.

Police say he was taken to Harford Memorial Hospital and later to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

Police say Berkenkemper died April 4. His body was taken to the state medical examiner's office.

Bruce Goldfarb, a spokesman for the medical examiner, said Tuesday that the cause of Berkenkemper's death is still under investigation.
