'Combative' Man Shot In Stomach After Officer's Gun Discharged At Fire Scene

DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore County police are investigating after an officer's gun discharged and struck a man in the stomach at the scene of a house fire Wednesday morning.

The weapon was discharged at the scene of a house fire in the 300 block of Pine Street in Dundalk.

According to the a Baltimore County Fire spokesman, the fire department got a call for a house fire at the location.

When they arrived they found a woman outside, but a man was still inside and didn't want to come out.

County police arrived and went inside to get him, but the man was combative and got into an altercation with police inside the home.

At some point, the officer's gun fired and struck the man in the stomach.

The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The officer was taken to an area hospital for smoke inhalation.

It isn't known at this time if the officer fired his weapon or if it went off accidentally during the altercation.

Also at this time, fire officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
