2 Injured In Shooting On ICC East In Laurel

LAUREL, Md. (WJZ) -- Shots fired along the Intercounty Connector in Laurel, where a vehicle was hit by gunfire.

Christie Ileto updates the investigation.

Two people were inside that vehicle at the time of the shooting. Fortunately, neither was hit.

Bullets fly through the windshield of a truck driving east on the Intercounty Connector--between I-95 and Briggs Chaney Road.

"Glass striking one of the subjects in the vehicle--glass got in her face. And then, the bullet penetrated the clothing of another subject that was in the vehicle," said Lt. Kevin Ayd, MdTA Police.

WJZ confirms both the driver and passenger are employees of Nelson Tree Services. They were taken to an area hospital.

Police now work to uncover whether the pair were targeted.

"They're looking in a wooded area along that roadway. But they're canvassing the whole area," said Lt. Ayd.

MdTA Police say this is the first time something like this has happened since the ICC opened in 2011.Both victims have non-life threatening injuries.
