Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting In South Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in south Baltimore on Wednesday night.

Officers working in the 400 block of South Gilmor Street said they saw a suspect they believed to be armed with a gun shortly after 7:30 p.m.

As one of the officers began approaching the suspect, he turned and fired a handgun in the direction of the officers, striking a police vehicle, police said.

One officer returned fire. The suspect fled down an alley and eluded police. Officers searched the area and local hospitals with no success.

The Special Investigation Response Team (S.I.R.T.) continues to investigate this incident and the department has activated its Body Worn Camera policy.
