BRUNSWICK, Md. (AP) -- Police say a Brunswick woman and her estranged husband were found shot to death in a car as fire damaged several nearby homes. Authorities say the events are related.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says there is no threat to public safety.

Deputy First Class Carly Hose says the bodies of 27-year-old Kelly Shortt-Hamilton and 44-year-old Daniel Shortt were found shortly after 8:30 a.m. Monday about three miles west of Brunswick. Hose says the car had West Virginia tags.

Frederick County Sheriff's Deputy First Class Amanda Hatcher says Shortt-Hamilton lived in one of the damaged homes.

The fire was reported at 8:14 a.m.

Brunswick is a town of 6,000 people about 55 miles west of Baltimore and 40 miles northwest of Washington.
