Police Charged Father In 5-Month-Old Girl's Death
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Police have charged a man in the death of his 5-month-old daughter after he confessed to suffocating her.
Five-month-old Noran Lee Torbet was pronounced dead on Oct. 3 shortly after she arrived at the hospital.
According to police, the baby's 23-year-old father Jeffery McKinney confessed to detectives that he was frustrated when baby Noran wouldn't stop crying. He placed a pillow on top of the baby to muffle the sound of her cries.
McKinney told police he realized the daughter was unresponsive and then place Noran on the edge of the mattress against the wall and covered her in pillows again.
He then asked family members if they had seen the infant. Family searched the home and found Noran's lifeless body.
Although the grandmother tried CPR, she never was revived.
Police were called to the home in the 6400 block of Sefton Avenue around 5:03 p.m. Hospital staff said the infant had passed the of rigor-mortis when she arrived at the hospital.
McKinney was arrested and now faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and child abuse.
