Sheriff Charges Md. Man With Shooting Girlfriend

DARLINGTON, Md. (WJZ) -- Harford County sheriff's deputies have arrested and charged a man in connection with the Sunday morning shooting of a woman in Darlington.

According to deputies, 46-year-old Bruce L. Olney of Darlington was charged in the attempted murder of his 43-year-old girlfriend Deana M. Craven.

Deputies responded to the 1500 block of Robinson Mill Road around 11:40 a.m. Sunday for a report of a person being shot. When they arrived they learned that Craven was driven to the scene by someone else after her boyfriend, Olney, shot her.

She was taken to Darlington Volunteer Fire Department where she was stabilized before she was flown by state helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies learned Craven was shot with a shotgun and sustained injuries to her arm. After a brief search, they located Olney in the woods near Robinson Mill Road and took him into custody. They searched his home, after a warrant was obtained, and found the shotgun.

He's charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and reckless endangerment.

Olney was taken to the Harford County Interagency Processing Center for his initial appearance before a District Court commissioner and was ordered to be held without bail.
