Police Ask For Public's Help To Find Driver In Fatal Hit-And-Run

DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) -- Struck and left to die. A plea from Baltimore County police and loved ones for help after a woman is killed by a hit-and-run driver in Dundalk.

Ava-joye Burnett has more on evidence that could help police catch this driver--and how you can help.

Police believe that person may have been driving a red or maroon colored vehicle with major front end damage.

It was around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when a vehicle hit and killed a woman as she walked along North Point Boulevard in Dundalk.

"Angry. It hurts. It hurts knowing that she was there by herself," said Tammy Oxendine, ex-girlfriend.

Friends tell WJZ 34-year-old Atriece Hall had two jobs, and that she was on her way home when that driver ran her over and left her there to die.

"She was a loving person. For somebody to run her over like that and just leave her, it's just sad," Oxendine said.

Now there are new clues in the case. Police are looking for the person who was driving either a red or maroon vehicle.

"That person should have known that they hit something. We've got damage; they left little pieces of their car behind. There is no way that person didn't know," said Baltimore County Police Cpl. John Wachter.

In the last year, there have been at least three hit-and-run accidents near this block involving people or property.

A big part of the problem for pedestrians: they have a lot of lanes that they need to cross in the area before they get to the other side.

"This is really horrible that this individual struck another person and then fled the scene without even bothering to check on them," Wachter said.

Tuesday night, as Hall's family and friends prepare for her funeral, they have a simple request for the driver who hit her:

"Just come forward, turn yourself in. God would want you to do the right thing. Her family is mourning the loss of someone. Just turn yourself in," said Oxendine.

Tuesday night, a vigil is scheduled at North Point Boulevard near Cove Road, where Hall was hit and killed.
