Police Arrest Man After Attempted Rape In Church Parking Lot

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Police in Annapolis have arrested a 23-year-old Maryland man they say tried to rape a woman in a church parking lot.

Marcus Snipes Jr. was arrested for attempted rape and assault among other charges. Police responded to reports of a woman screaming for help in the parking lot of St. Mary's Church early Saturday. Officers found a 31-year-old woman being helped by several people. She told police she met Snipes that evening and he followed her and her friends to several bars.

Snipes offered the victim a ride home and walked her to a parking lot where he attempted to rape her. The victim screamed and witnesses called police. Two women tried to hold Snipes down until officers arrived but he ran away. Police later caught him.
