Police: Alcohol Use, Excessive Speed Led To Fatal Boat Crash
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Natural Resources Police say alcohol use, inattention and excessive speed led to a fatal boat crash in Annapolis.
The agency said in a news release Friday that an investigation into the July 31 crash has concluded.
Authorities say the crash killed 49-year-old Paul Dettor of Annapolis, and injured two passengers, 49-year-old John Wilkens of Swampscott, Massachusetts, and 48-year-old Greg Lilly of Arnold.
Police say the 20-foot Boston Whaler was returning to Whitehall Creek. Officials say Dettor steered the boat to enter the creek and slammed into a stone jetty at Sharp's Point.
Investigators say Dettor sustained fatal injuries when he was thrown from the boat and landed on the rocks.
An autopsy and toxicology tests showed that Dettor was legally intoxicated, with a blood alcohol content of .13.
