Police: Alcohol, Speed Factors In Fatal Md. Crash On New Years

Anne Arundel County, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland man has been killed in a car crash, and police say alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors.

Anne Arundel County police said Friday that 33-year-old Rubert Tawan Nick of Shady Side was driving in Shady Side on New Year's Day when he failed to negotiate a curve. His car left the roadway, and then hit several trees and a utility pole.

Nick was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say driver error caused the crash, and that alcohol and excessive speed appear to be factors. The investigation is ongoing.
