Police: 3 Dead After Eastern Shore Crash

GIRDLETREE, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say three people from Virginia are dead after a crash on the Eastern Shore.

The crash occurred before 9 p.m. Monday when police say an Acura TL went off state Route 12 in Girdletree in southern Worcester County. The car hit three trees, including one that was uprooted, cut in half and fell on top of the car.

Police say the driver, 26-year-old Nicole Earnest, lost control of the car while negotiating a curve in the road. Police say Earnest and her two passengers, 21-year-old Amanda Phillips and 45-year-old Sean Mobley, were pronounced dead on the scene. All three are from Chincoteague, Virginia.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The Maryland State Police crash team is conducting a detailed crash reconstruction.
