Plane With Two Flat Tires Lands At BWI

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Southwest Airlines Flight 528 landed safely at BWI airport Monday afternoon with two flat tires.

The plane had also departed from BWI, but had to turn around to make the emergency landing. It landed safely around 3:30 p.m.

According to a spokeswoman, the flight experienced a tire issue in the main landing gear during takeoff.

"To further ensure the safety of all onboard and to protect the aircraft, the Boeing 737-700 will be towed into a gate, allowing our Customers to access the terminal," she told WJZ. "Each component of the landing gear is designed with redundant, multiple tires, and our Pilots are trained to deal with these types of landings. While our Mechanics are taking a look and changing the tire, our Employees at BWI are working to get 143 Customers onward to Fort Lauderdale."
