Missing Pit Bull Back At Home With Owner In Baltimore City

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A missing pit bull is back where he belongs -- at home with his owner in Baltimore City.

Now, his owner is speaking out. She and police want to know who would steal her dog and why.

The mission at the Maryland SPCA is to find dogs and cats a forever home. So when an employee's dog went musing Wednesday, staff went into high gear to find him.

"When I got home from work, I realized the burglary had happened and Knox had been stolen," said Kaitlyn Thomas, Knox's owner and Maryland SPCA employee.

In Remington, friends covered trees and poles with flyers. They also set up a GoFundMe and Facebook page. It worked.

"I'm pretty sure the massive amount of attention caused the people to get scared. They dropped him off," Thomas said. "We got a call from a group of people who found him tied to a tree right down the block from our house."

Teaching kids how to care for pets, Knox -- short for Equinox -- is like an ambassador for the SPCA, where he was adopted.

Now, he's back where he belongs, with those he loves the most.

"So many people came out to help. I'm overwhelmed by the amount of people and the messages. That's why he came home," said Thomas.

City police continue to investigate. They are reviewing security footage of the neighborhood.

Thomas says thieves did steal some cash, but she's convinced they were just after Knox.
