Pierre Gibbons, Man Who Ran Into Burning Home To Save Neighbor, Released From Burn Unit

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Pierre Gibbons, who rushed into a burning building to save his Patterson Park neighbor, was released from the Johns Hopkins Bayview burn unit ICU and transferred to another part of the hospital for recovery.

Gibbons was burned on 80 percent of his body. He was given only a 10 percent chance to live.

His family shared the news in a Facebook post.

People cheered as nurses took Gibbons from the ICU Burn Unit to continue his recovery in the in-patient program.

"My goal is to be on my feet the next time I see all of you," Gibbons said. "I'd really like to be running after my grandson."

Gibbons thanked neighbors and friends who showed support and sent cards.

Then he rang the bell as he was leaving!
