Photos: Marylanders have fun in the snow after weekend's winter storm

A winter storm dumped several inches of snow across Maryland on Sunday, which led to a snow day for children across the state on Monday.

Families took advantage of the snowy off day, whether it was sledding or playing in the snow.

"We don't do a whole lot of skiing, but sledding is the next best thing, and this is a great hill," Baltimore County resident Chris Dunn said.

Children and families took their sleds to the hill at the Baltimore County Board of Education, where they went down on the plentiful snow.

"Always nervous when there's no school, but a perfect sledding day will, and I'm happy that I'm sledding," Baltimore County resident Hayley Moten said.

Instead of hitting the books, the children got to see their friends, throw a few snowballs and take a few tumbles. 

"Instead of staying outside or being in class, you get to be outside with your friends and go sledding," said Baltimore County resident Marshall Jackson.

Moten told WJZ that you're never too old for fun in the snow.

"This is one of the most fun things of parenting, getting to relive the things you loved doing," Moten said. "Both of my kids used to not like winter, but after snowboarding and sledding, they love it."

Schools will remain closed on Tuesday, January 27, for many students in Maryland.
