Philly Band Joins Symphony Orchestra In Civil War Concert

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Philadelphia Big Brass Band and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra are teaming up in Hagerstown for a pair of unusual concerts with a Civil War theme.

The concerts Saturday and Sunday are keyed to next month's 150th anniversary of the end of the War Between the States. The show is called "Brothers on the Battlefield."

Brass band leader Rodney Marsalis -- brother to Winston and Branford Marsalis -- tells The Herald-Mail that the program includes period pieces, classical works, show tunes, pop, folk and jazz.

The brass band has been touring with show since last summer but Marsalis says this will be its first performance with an orchestra.
