Pet Coyote Euthanized In Calvert County

NORTH BEACH,Md. (WJZ)—A pet coyote is euthanized after police say it was running loose on Wednesday morning.

The call came in just after 8:00 a.m. when a person reported a coyote running around in North Beach, in the area of Neptune's restaurant.

Police say they were able to capture the coyote in the area of Frederick Ave. and 3rd Street.

According to authorities, the coyote was wearing a blue collar, indicating it was someone's pet. Police say the coyote was purchased in Virginia when it was a puppy.

Due to the possible exposure of rabies, it was humanely euthanized and sent to the lab in Baltimore for further testing.

According to NRP Officers, charges are pending for the owner.

It is illegal to own/possess a coyote in the State of Maryland.
