Parents Turned Away From Dunbar Graduation Ceremony

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Hundreds of parents were turned away from a high school graduation ceremony that happened Friday in East Baltimore.

WJZ's Rick Ritter was there as outraged family members stood outside Dunbar High School.

A stamped ticket was supposed to guarantee parents admission to the graduation ceremony. But when they arrived, family members tell WJZ they were turned away because the auditorium was full.

A projector was set up inside the gymnasium for those who couldn't get in or for those without a stamped ticket.

Alexis Thompson was one of the Dunbar seniors who refused to get her diploma without her parents inside.

"It makes me upset. I can't walk across the stage and my family can't see me. I'd rather be outside with them," Thompson said.

Some parents say there was a mix-up, and that parents without stamped tickets got into the auditorium.

WJZ tried reaching out to Baltimore City Schools for more details, but never heard back.
