Papelbon Gets 3-Game Suspension For Intentional Pitch During Orioles Game

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Washington Nationals pitcher Jonathan Papelbon has received a three-game suspension for an intentional pitch he threw during the Orioles game on Wednesday night.

The announcement was made by Joe Garagiola Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball.

The intentional pitch happened during the top of the ninth inning at Nationals Park when Papelbon appeared to throw a pitch near the head of Orioles' Manny Machado.

The league says unless the suspension is appealed, Papelbon's suspension is scheduled to begin tonight.
