Pandora Jewelry Moving To Downtown Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- A major international corporation is moving into Downtown Baltimore. As Christie Ileto reports the luxury jeweler "Pandora" will bring hundreds of jobs to its new Pratt Street location and a big boost to the whole downtown area.

Known for their charm bracelets, international jeweler, Pandora is moving their American headquarters out of the suburbs to Pratt Street downtown.

Thursday's news is already creating buzz, bringing more than 600 jobs to the city, making it one of Baltimore's largest private employers.

It's part of the latest movement of companies flocking to downtown, following an exodus years earlier.

"20 years ago we had businesses that were moving out, but most recently we've had companies from Hanover, Towson, and Pennsylvania moving into downtown," said Kirby Fowler the President of Downtown Partnership.

The International name will join high profile companies like Under Armor and Transamerica in the city's growing skyline.

Pandora will occupy five of the 24 floors at 250 West Pratt, a corridor that city officials say has a healthy occupancy rate of big businesses and retailers.

"It is already a lot of people in here that we see every day," said Lakeal Costango who works on 250 Pratt.

She and her co-workers see this as a boost to the city's workforce.

"600 employees they may not be all coming from other states, 8:08 some of them will be hired here," said Pamela Gilliard from the University of Maryland Medical System.

And that boost means big business.

"To just add more people to the street is incredibly important people will going out showing, they'll be patronizing restaurants," said Fowler.

And with a new highly visible location city officials are hoping other big names will follow suit.

Pandora had been headquartered for more than nine years in Columbia, MD.
