Orioles-Rangers Game Rained Out in Texas
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers got an unexpected extra day off after a long opening stretch, and the Baltimore Orioles have another game to make up later in the season.
With heavy rain falling Sunday morning and strong storms in the forecast into the night and Monday, the finale of a four-game series between the Rangers and Orioles was postponed. The game was called about five hours before the scheduled first pitch.
Both teams are also scheduled off Monday, but with the possibility of more rain then, the game will instead be made up June 20. That had also been a scheduled off day for both teams.
Before Sunday's rainout, the Rangers had the longest streak in the majors without a postponement. Texas had played 448 consecutive regular season games since a scheduled contest was postponed, a rainout at home against Arizona on May 29, 2013.
It is the second weekend in a row the Orioles have had a game postponed by rain. Baltimore's home game April 9 against Tampa Bay was postponed, and no makeup date has been announced for that game between the AL East rivals.
Texas had played 13 consecutive days since its April 4 opener, the only major league team without a scheduled day off in that span.
Now the Rangers get two days off without playing before another stretch with 22 games scheduled over 23 days. They open a three-game series at home against Houston on Tuesday night, when rain is again in the forecast.
Baltimore has lost three of four games since its majors-best 7-0 start, including two of the three games played in Texas.
The Orioles won the middle game 11-5 on Friday after hitting four home runs during a nine-run seventh inning. Texas won 8-4 on Saturday night after its own seventh-inning outburst, scoring six runs in that frame.
Left-hander Derek Holland (1-0, 2.31) had been scheduled to pitch Sunday for the Rangers against right-hander Mike Wright (1-0, 7.20).
It wasn't immediately clear what the pitching plans for both teams were after their two-day breaks.
Baltimore opens a three-game series at home Tuesday against Toronto.
