Orioles Place Caleb Joseph On Disabled List

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Orioles have recalled Francisco Peña from Triple-A Norfolk and placed Caleb Joseph on the 15-day disabled list with a testicular injury suffered in the May 30 game vs. Boston.

Joseph was hit during Monday's game and dropped to his knees in pain. He was attended to by head trainer Richie Bancells but Joseph remained in the game. He was then taken to an area hospital afterward as a precaution. Apparently the injury is serious enough to warrant him being placed on DL.

Peña, 26, batted .200/.241/.250 (16-for-80) with two doubles, a triple, and six RBI in 24 games with Triple-A Norfolk this season. He hit safely in five of his last six games with the Tides, batting .353/.421/.353 (6-for-17) in that span. Over 808 career minor league games, he batted .237/.286/.375 with 80 home runs and 358 RBI. Peña has played in nine career Major League games.

The Orioles purchased Pena's contract from the Royals on Dec. 2. He's on the 40-man roster.
