Orioles Matt Wieters Not Expected To Receive Qualifying Offer

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- According to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, the Baltimore Orioles are unlikely to extend a qualifying offer to free-agent catcher Matt Wieters.

The club has not commented on or confirmed the report.

Wieters accepted Baltimore's $15.8 million qualifying offer last season after his Tommy John surgery. This season, Wieters hit .243/.302/.409 with 17 home runs and 17 doubles in 124 games. He is considered one of the top catchers on the free-agent market.

Teams have until 5 p.m. ET on Monday, November 7, to extend the one-year, $17.2 million qualifying offer to free agents, and players have until Nov. 14 to accept or decline the offer.
