Orioles Magic Spiking Sales For Area Businesses

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Orioles magic is in the air, and it's spiking sales for businesses across the region.

Tracey Leong has more on the financial impact.

Fans love showing their Orioles pride, and local business love cashing in on the O's success.

Double T Diner in Perry Hall is serving up a side of Orioles excitement with every meal.

"It's been a lot of business. It's been a lot of Orioles fans," said Melissa Mans, waitress.

O's memorabilia lines the counters and hangs from the ceilings, mostly from O's fanatic Raynor Banks.

"This is what it takes to make the world go round, and if I could help anybody in anyway that's what I've been put here to do,"Banks said.

Banks donated dozens of items from his personal collection, including an Orioles Wheaties box dating back to 1996-- and it still hasn't been opened.

Fans say the O's decor just gives them another reason to eat at their favorite diner.

"I live it all," said Celeste Grimaldi, customer.

"I hope this will continue for a number of years," said Melinda Fotiou, waitress.

Across town at Wild Bills, Orioles gear is flying off the shelves.

"It's great for business, to say the least. A big wave of people coming in getting their stuff," said Connor Lichenberg, Wild Bills employee.

The store carries the shirts and hats the team wore right after they clinched the division. Well, they have plenty of the hats left. But the shirts sold out in two days.

Devoted fans like Matt Malczewski even has the O's logo tattooed on his leg. He says you can never have enough orange and black.

"The more I have, the better. And I can wear something different everyday," Malczewski said.

Area businesses are hoping the Orioles continue on this hot streak because it translates to big bucks.
