One Person Injured After Baltimore Manhole Explosion

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- One person was injured after a manhole exploded in Southwest Baltimore, according to the local firefighters' union.

The explosion occurred near the intersection of Frederick Avenue and Boswell Avenue, Baltimore Firefighters IAFF Local 734 said in a post on its Twitter account.

"#BMORESBravest on scene with an apparent explosion in a man hole," the union tweeted. "At least 1 civilian has been injured. @MyBGE called. Frederick Av is shut down from Chedworth to Stonecroft."

BGE crews were working near the intersection of Frederick Avenue and North Bend Road when the explosion occurred on Thursday, a BGE spokesperson said.  A private contractor was working in that area and sustained injuries following the explosion, the spokesperson said. BGE is investigating the cause of the incident.
