One Dead In Howard County Basement Fire

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- One person is dead following a fire in the basement of a Howard County home.

Police identify the victim as Deena Rae Brewer, who was pronounced dead at the scene along with her dog.

The fire was reported in the basement of a home in the 2800 block of Glenwood Springs Drive around 1:45 p.m.

Howard County Fire Department crews responded and were able to get the flames under control, but one person was found dead in the basement.

All the other people inside the home when the blaze started, including two two dogs, were able to escape before crews arrived on scene.

 

Fire crews from Carroll and Montgomery Counties also helped put out the fire. There was an estimated $50,000 worth of damages to the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the Howard County Police Department is conducting the death investigation.
