Officials Investigate Fire At Cecil County Church As Arson

ELK MILLS, Md. (AP) -- Officials are investigating after they say someone intentionally set a Cecil County church on fire.

Authorities say the fire happened early Sunday morning at the Baldwin United Methodist Church in Elk Mills. By Monday morning, the Maryland State fire marshals' office determined it was arson and that someone had set the fire inside the building.

Crews were called to the scene around 4:30 a.m. to battle the blaze.

The church has stood on the small lot since the 1800s and was rebuilt in 1967 to update the building. Church members say they are determined to rebuild again.

There is no word on who committed the arson or the motive behind the fire. Authorities are asking the public's help to solve the case.
